Hi,

Is it possible to rip the audio from a DVD in FLAC e.g from a live concert etc.

Will EAC recognise the audio or do I have to use a different program...

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks
Kiefer
normally DVD's use 448/640 KBPS AC3 5.1 (Some ones even use DTS 5.1). If it is live, its pretty much considered Lossless!

i would say get DVD Audio Extractor so it snips the audio off the DVD but leaves everything else. After that, it becomes a pain in the ass because from there (ubless the chapters are per-song) you have to edit and snip audio for each song (or performance).

BUT! if the DVD is Music Videos, it is NOT considered Lossless because the audio has been diminished to fit on the DVD.

I strongly recommend you to try DVD Audio Extractor. Extract the audio to Wave, and then convert to FLAC.

Thanks,

I will pull down DVD Audio Extractor and check it out

Hi,

I tried DVD Audio Extractor and it work a treat!

I was lucky all the chapters were by song and the quality is superb.

I tried on Corinne Bailey Rae's live DVD in London 2007 - I will be uploading it in the next few days.

But please check the audio stream of the DVD before. It does not make sense to convert lossy formats like AC3 to FLAC. Audio stream should be LPCM or at least DTS.

thnx i'll take this knowledge on board. BTW does DVD Audio Extractor allow for cuesheet creation via the dvd's IFO or chapters. as i'm going to start to use it.

Subliminal, I guess I found what you want:
- Download ChapterXtractor

Configuring:
- Open it, change to "Format" tab
- Select "Preset 7" and click the button right on it's right ("Modify preset name")
- Change preset to: Cue Sheet
- Change format to: %sp TRACK %C AUDIO\n INDEX 01 %mm:%ss:%ff\n
- Change header to: FILE "INSERT_DVD_NAME WAVE\n
- Change footer to blank
- Click "Modify preset name" again to save

Using:
- Click "Open IFO" and select the correct file
- Use the "Customize" tab to see the chapters list in order to find the correct IFO file and select all the chapters. You may not want to select the last (usually it is not longer than 1 second)
- Select preset "Cue Sheet" on "Format" tab
- Click "Save data" and save to a .cue file

You can add more info to the header, using \n to break lines, or you can add then with notepad after creating the file.

Well, I still think that the "auto-chapter-cut" tool is accurate enough...
